In 2008, this amount receded to quite normal figures, about 6.4 million tons. For 2009, analysts expect a slight increase, with export volumes reaching 8 million tons, thus signaling gradually soaring demand for the Brazilian cereal. This is a scenario worth celebrating, when one takes into account exactly a situation of uncertainty over the previously mentioned self-sufficiency problem.
