Corn
Brazil is concluding the 2004/05 maize crop – both the summer and winter plantings – with indications pointing to short supplies. Under normal conditions, the panorama would be stimulating enough to, at least, encourage the farmers to invest even further in this cereal. However, due to the present market juncture, with profit perspectives pointing to other crops (particularly soybean), and with scarcely remunerating prices, there is much uncertainty in the air. Is the planted area going to rise for the 2005/06 crop? Will production go up?
